'Picon Pie' is now booking to the 29 May 2005
Picon Pie is now booking to the 29 May 2005 at the Lamb's Theatre.
The show opened at the Lamb's on the 22 Feb 2005, following previews from the 11 Feb. The production originally opened at the DR2 Theater on the 15 Jul 2004, where it played for six months.
Described in its publicity as 'A play with music', Picon Pie by Rose Leiman Goldenberg, tells the story of Molly Picon, who was born in NYC in 1898, and bacame the biggest Yiddish star of her day, and that day was long. Known around the world for her colorful performances, Picon began winning prizes for her amateur acts at the age of five and didn't stop. Throughout the 20th Century, she sang and danced her way across continents and into hearts of the world. But Molly had her secrets.
In Picon Pie, the "real" Molly tells them all as Broadway and television star June Gable brings Molly to life in a tour-de-force performance celebrating eighty years of Picon's life, from her unrivaled international success to her private hopes and dreams, from her intense fight for personal and professional survival to her passionate and private life-long partnership with her manager and mentor Jacob "Yonkel" Kalich.
Picon Pie features June Gable as Molly Picon and Stuart Zagnit, as Jacob Kalich.
The play is directed by Pamela Hall, with set design by Matthew Maraffi, costumes by Laura Frecon and lighting by Heather Layman.
