Philoktetes sets new dates Louis Cancelmi replaces Christopher McCann

The Soho Rep have announced that Louis Cancelmi replaces Christopher McCann, in the title role of Philoktetes, written, directed and designed by John Jesuru. There has been no reason given for the change in cast.

Originally scheduled to open on 14 Oct 2007, following previews from 11 Oct 2007, Philoktetes will now open at the Soho Rep on 17 Oct 2007, following previews from 13 Oct. The play will still run through to 28 Oct 2007 as originally announced.

Louis Cancelmi as Philoktetes, joins Will Badgett as Odysseus and Jason Lew as Neoptolemus.

Philoktetes: Ten years after abandoning Philoktetes on an island, his fellow soldiers return to retrieve him, now needing him to win the Trojan War.

The play was originally commissioned by the Kaaitheater, Brussels for Wooster Group founding member Ron Vawter. The project has since enjoyed productions in Europe, Mexico, and recently in Japan, starring Noh theatre legend Hideo Kanze.
