New York City Center has announced its 2024 Encores! programming lineup, featuring three productions.
New York City Center has announced its 2024 season lineup for Encores!, a concert series of American musical revivals. The programming will include three productions.
The season will kick off with Once Upon a Mattress (Jan 24-28, 2024), starring Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster. The musical, based on the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea,” first appeared on Broadway in 1959 with music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Barer. This Encores! staging will feature a new concert adaptation by Amy Sherman-Palladino. Artistic director Lear deBessonet will direct.
Next up will be Jelly’s Last Jam (Feb. 21-25, 2024), featuring a book by George C. Wolfe, lyrics by Susan Birkenhead, and music by Jelly Roll Morton and Luther Henderson. The musical, which premiered on Broadway in 1992, follows the legendary career of jazz pianist Jelly Roll Morton. Robert O’Hara will direct.
The season will conclude with Titanic (June 12-16, 2024). The musical, with music and lyrics by Maury Yeston and a book by Peter Stone, chronicles the story of the RMS Titanic and premiered on Broadway in 1997. Anne Kauffman will direct.
