Get ready to tango! This fall, Lincoln Center Theater will present the New York premiere of The Gardens of Anuncia by Michael John LaChiusa. The musical features a tango-infused score and will begin performances on October 19 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.

The Gardens of Anuncia was inspired by the early life story of Argentine-American dancer and Broadway legend Graciela Daniele. The musical follows Anuncia, who reflects on her childhood in Juan Perón’s Argentina, as she tends to her garden. Anuncia celebrates the family of women who made sacrifices so she could pursue a career as an artist.

Priscilla Lopez will star as Anuncia. The cast will also feature Enrique Acevedo, Andréa Burns, Eden Espinosa, Tally Sessions, Mary Testa, and Kalyn West.

The musical creative team will include Graciela Daniele (director and co-choreographer), Alex Sanchez (co-choreographer), Michael Starobin (orchestrator), Deborah Abramson (music director), Mark Wendland (set designer), Toni-Leslie James (costume designer), Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer (lighting designers), Drew Levy (sound designer), and Thomas J. Gates (stage manager).

The Gardens of Anuncia is Graciela Daniele and Michael John LaChiusa’s fifth collaboration at Lincoln Center Theater following Hello Again, Chronicle of a Death Foretold, Marie Christine, and Bernarda Alba.
