New John Lennon Musical in 2004/2005 Season

Wed 15 Oct 2003 New John Lennon Musical in 2004/2005 Season It was announced today that Producers Edgar Lansbury and Don Scardino have secured the rights to produce a Broadway-bound musical based on the songs of John Lennon. Tentatively titled THE LENNON PROJECT , the musical will be directed by Scardino with a book by Don Scardino and Eric Overmyer. The show is expected to open on Broadway in the 2004-2005 season. THE LENNON PROJECT will be produced by arrangement with Yoko Ono. "Over the past two decades, I have been experiencing the feedback from the world to John's life, statements and music," said Yoko Ono. "I realized what John had meant to the world. He was a catalyst who brought down the hypocrisy and the old world establishments by saying "Gimme Some Truth." What we present on stage should again give people insight, encouragement, inspiration and fun, so they can go on with their lives with some assurance and hope." "We are culling through the hundreds of songs John Lennon wrote after the Beatles split up," said producer Edgar Lansbury. "The material is diverse, rich and incredibly theatrical. As we begin to shape the project, we will tell the story of an era - an entire generation, as defined by the music and life of John Lennon. Through these amazing songs --and there are over 200 to choose from--Lennon's voice emerges as of one of the most unique voices of our lifetime. As we develop the musical in the coming months, we will announce a title. But for now, we are calling it "THE LENNON PROJECT" because that's exactly what it is."
