Written by John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Bob Fosse, Chicago is a musical about crime and celebrity in the 1920s-era title city. Wannabe star Roxie and vaudevillian Velma, both in prison for murder, compete for the sympathy of the press and the attention of a slick lawyer, hoping to get acquitted — and get famous in the process.
The show features well-known songs like "All That Jazz," "Razzle Dazzle," and "Cell Block Tango."
Chicago plays the Ambassador Theatre. Since its opening in 1996, this production of the musical (which originally premiered in 1975) has become Broadway's second longest-running show (after The Phantom of the Opera, which closed in 2023) and longest-running revival.
The current cast includes Ariana Madix as Roxie, Robyn Hurder as Velma Kelly, Orfeh as Matron "Mama" Morton, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn, Red Concepción as Amos Hart, R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine, and Max Clayton as Fred Casely. Alyssa Milano joins the show as Roxie starting September 16.
