Sebastián Yatra to join 'Chicago' Broadway cast
The Latin Grammy Award-winning musician will make his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in the long-running musical at the Ambassador Theatre for four weeks only.
All he cares about is love! Award-winning Latin music artist Sebastián Yatra will join the cast of Chicago on Broadway from November 25 to December 22 only.
Yatra is best known for performing the Oscar-nominated song "Dos Orugitas" from the animated Disney film Encanto. His music career has earned him a Latin Grammy Award and a Grammy nomination.
"Getting to Broadway was something I had imagined but it seemed impossible and now that it is coming true in Chicago, which is such an iconic show, is something that fills me with great excitement," said Yatra in a statement. "I remember many years ago when I went to see Evita on Broadway and Ricky Martin was starring in it. It blew my mind to see a Latino on Broadway, also performing in English. This is a commitment that requires a lot of discipline and I can't wait to learn a lot from the cast and crew."
He makes his Broadway debut as Billy Flynn in the show. The current Chicago cast features Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart, Robyn Hurder as Velma Kelly, Orfeh as Matron "Mama" Morton, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn, Red Concepción as Amos Hart, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
Chicago, the longest-running show currently on Broadway, centers on housewife Roxie and vaudeville performer Velma during their stints in prison for murder. With the help of lawyer Billy, they must win over the public and the press to get acquitted — and get famous in the process.
The show has run since 1996 and plays at the Ambassador Theatre.
