Maria Maria at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater


Joa Musical Company, Chris Yongseok Choi and Jack M. Dalgleish presents Maria Maria, book & lyrics by Hye Jung Yu and music by Gyung Chan Cha.

The musical opens at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College on 1 Oct 2006, following previews from 22 Sep and running through to 15 Oct 2006. Part of the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

Maria Maria: Maria is a prostitute who leads a miserable life serving Roman soldiers. Wanting to escape her fate she makes a deal that will change her life. With the rising popularity of Jesus, his opponents make her an offer to seduce him. If successful her reward is a chance to go to Rome to redeem her life.

Directed by Cheon Mo Seong and choreographed by In Sook Choi, Maria Maria has a 25 member cast that features: Hyo Seong Kang (Maria), Bok Hee Yoon (The Blind Woman), Sang Woo Park (Jesus), Sonya (Maria), Gain Choi (Maria), and Seung Chul Lee (The Pharisee).

Maria Maria received its world premiere in Seoul, South Korea in 2003 and will be performed by a Korean cast in Korean with supertitles.

Set design by Sook Jin Seo and Eui Yeon Lee, with costumes by Su Dong Lee and lighting by Tae Hwan Koo.
