James Franco Directs The Long Shrift Off-Broadway
James Franco is set to make his directorial debut at the off-Broadway Rattlestick Playwright's Theater, with a new production of Robert Boswell's The Long Shrift which will open on 13 July 2014, following previews from 7 July and booking through 24 Aug 2014.
The production will star Allie Gallerani, Scott Haze, Brian Lally, Ahna O'Reilly, and Ally Sheedy. It will feature set design by Andromache Chalfant, costumes by Jessica Pabst, lighting design by Burke Brown and sound design by Bart Fasbender.
The Long Shrift follows Richard Singer, a dorky teenage boy is accused and thrown in jail for rape, tearing his parents apart. Now, nine years later, Richard is out of jail and his accuser is back in his life.
Robert Boswell has published seven novels, three story collections, and two books of nonfiction. The Long Shrift is his second play.
James Franco is currently starring on Broadway in Of Mice and Men at the Longacre Theatre. He began his career on "Freaks and Geeks" and received a Golden Globe Award for his performance in the biographical film James Dean. Notable film credits include Oz: The Great and Powerful, Spring Breakers, Harry Osborn in the Spider-Man trilogy, Milk, and 127 Hours, for which he received Academy Award, SAG and Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor.
