According to the WSJ, the Broadway stage adaptation of Fight Club, which has been rumoured since 2011, may still be Broadway-bound.

During an interview with Chuck Palahniuk, who wrote the 1996 best-selling novel, he revealed that David Fincher (who directed the 1999 film adaptation starring Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter) is "so dedicated to producing Fight Club as a rock opera now."

He also revealed possible members of the show's creative team, as Fincher has reportedly been in talks with Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor, as well as Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, who is working on the show's score.

The Fight Club rock opera may still be a way off, however, as Mr. Palahniuk estimated that at the very earliest, it could take two years for it to reach the Great White Way.

Fight Club was first published in August 1996 and won the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association Award and Oregon Book Award for Best Novel the following year. The film adaptation was released in October 1999 by 20th Century Fox and grossed over $100 million at the box office. The David Fincher-helmed cult movie starred Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, Meat Loaf and Jared Leto.
