Idiot Savant extends run by one week

The Public Theater extend the world premiere of Idiot Savant, written and directed by Richard Foreman and starring Willem Dafoe, by one week. The comedy will now run through to 20 Dec 2009.

Presented in association with the Ontological-Hysteric Theater, Idiot Savant opened at the Public Theater on 4 Nov 2009, following previews from 27 Oct and was originally scheduled to close on 13 Dec 2009.

Marie asks the Idiot Savant, "But what makes certain words - magic?" What follows is a philosophical comedy. From precise existential and metaphysical acrobatics, to a ridiculous game of inter-species golf with a Giant Duck, the comedy is an exploration of the boundaries of the legitimate.

Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis says, "Idiot Savant is a masterful work, and I am delighted that the audience has responded with such an appetite for it!"

The complete cast for Idiot Savant also features Alenka Kraigher as 'Marie,' Elina Löwensohn as 'Olga,' and Joel Israel, Eric Magnus and Daniel Nelson as Slaves.

The creative team features set design by Peter Ksander and Richard Foreman, costumes by Gabriel Berry, lighting by Heather Carson abd sound by Travis Just.
