Golden Child: Signature extends run by one week

The Signature Theatre Company's upcoming Off-Broadway revival of David Henry Hwang's Golden Child, directed by Leigh Silverman, has extended its run by one week.

The show, opening at the Signature Center's Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre on 13 Nov 2012, following previews from 23 Oct 2012, will now play through to 9 Dec 2012. The production was originally scheduled to close on 2 Dec 2012.

Golden Child is the first show in Signature Theatre's Residency One: David Henry Hwang Series. A new production of his play 'The Dance and the Railway,' directed by May Adrales, and the new play 'Kung Fu,' directed by Leigh Silverman, will also be part of this series.

The cast for Golden Child features Tina Chilip (Leviathan Lab's 'Twelfth Night') as 'Servant/Ghost,' Nadia Gan (Mirror Rep's 'The Shanghai Gesture') as 'Servant/Ghost,' Lesley Hu (off-Broadway debut) as 'Eng Eling/third wife,' Jennifer Lim (Broadway's 'Chinglish') as 'Eng Luan/second wife,' Matthew Maher (CSC's 'The School for Lies') as 'Reverend Baines,' Annie Q ("Are We There Yet?") as 'Eng Ahn/daughter,' Tony Award nominee Julyana Soelistyo (original Broadway cast of Golden Child) as Eng Siu-Young/first wife and Greg Watanabe (MyNetworkTV's "Watch Over Me") as 'Andrew Kong/Eng Tieng.'

In 1918, businessman Eng Tieng-Bin (Greg Watanabe) returns to his polygamous Chinese household after three years working abroad in the Philippines. As he seeks to introduce Western ways and a strange new religion - Christianity - to his traditional family, Tieng-Bin sets off a dangerous power struggle between his three wives, witnessed through the eyes of his favorite daughter.

The creative team features sets by Neil Patel, costumes by Anita Yavich, lighting by Matt Frey and sound by Darron L West.

David Henry Hwang's Golden Child premiered at Broadway's Longacre Theatre in 1958, and was nominated for a Tony-Award for Best Play. The production, directed by James Lapine, starred Randall Duk Kim as 'Eng Tieng-Bin.'
