Electra at NY City Center


The National Theatre of Greece presents Sophocles' Electra, at NY City Center from 10 - 14 Oct 2007 2007.

The press reads "Electra is the quintessential revenge drama. Her frenzied passion to avenge her father�s death not only reveals her character, but serves as a metaphor for the enormous breadth of pain that the human heart can withstand.

Directed by Peter Stein and choreographed by Lia Tsolaki, Electra features Stefania Goulioti (Electra); Apostolis Totsikas (Orestes); Karyofyllia Karaabeti (Clytemnestra); Lazaros Georgakopoulos (Aegisthus); Miltos Sotiriadis (Pylades); Yannis Fertis (Tutor); Kora Karvouni (Chrysothemis).

The Chorus includes Margarita Amarantidi; Errika Bigiou; Katerina Daskalaki; Kika Georgiou; Ioanna Zoi Karavasili; Irini Kirmizaki; Christina Maxouri; Lida Maniatiatakou; Marili Milia; Yota Militsi, Georgina Palaiothodorou; Maria Saltiri; Pinelopi Sergounioti, and Mara Vlachaki.

Sets and costumes for Electra are by Dionissis Fotopoulos, and lighting is by Jady Weideman. Music composition and music direction is by Alessando Nidi, and choreography is by Lia Tsolaki.

Modern Greek translation is by Minos Volanakis, editing of the translated text is by Petros Markaris, and the stage text version is by Peter Stein and the cast.
