Edward Albee's Three Tall Women postpones first preview on Broadway

The Broadway premiere of Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, starring Glenda Jackson, Laurie Metcalf & Alison Pill, postpones first preview due to technical issues.

The Broadway premiere of Edward Albee's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Three Tall Women, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Joe Mantello, was scheduled to begin previews at Broadway's Golden Theatre tonight, however, the first preview performance has had to be postponed by two days and will now take place on March 1, 2018. The official opening is still set for March 29 with the limited engagement running through to June 24, 2018.

Producers of the show issued the following statement: "The first preview for Edward Albee's Three Tall Women has been postponed by two days for technical issues. The production will play its first preview on Thursday, March 1 at 8:00 PM at the Golden Theatre."

The cast includes two-time Academy Award winner & four-time Tony Award nominee Glenda Jackson, who will be returning to Broadway after a 30-year absence, Academy Award nominee & Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf, and Tony Award nominee Alison Pill.

Edward Albee's Three Tall Women is "a beautifully-wrought portrait of a woman in life's final act." The play premiered at off-Broadway's Vineyard Theatre in 1994, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, as well as the Lucille Lortel, New York Drama Critics Circle and Outer Critics Circle awards for "Best Play."

The creative team behind Three Tall Women has also been announced and features scenic design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.

Three Tall Women is produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin.

Glenda Jackson has previously appeared on Broadway four times and received four Tony Award nominations. She made her Broadway debut in The Persecution and Assassination of Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade in 1965, and went on to star in Rose (1981), Strange Interlude (1985) and her last Broadway appearance was in the 1988 revival of Macbeth. She recently returned to the stage to take on the title role in London's acclaimed production of King Lear, which also earned her a fifth Olivier Award nomination. On screen, she won Academy Awards for "Women in Love" in 1971 and for "A Touch of Class" in 1974. She also earned Oscar nominations for "Sunday Bloody Sunday" (1972) and "Hedda" (1976). Ms. Jackson's recent return to the stage comes after a 23 year-stint as a Member of Parliament in the UK.

Laurie Metcalf won a Tony Award for her role as Nora in the Broadway premiere of A Doll's House, Part 2 at the Golden Theatre. She also earned Tony nominations for Misery (2016), The Other Place (2013) and November (2008). Other Broadway credits include Brighton Beach Memoirs and My Thing Of Love. She is perhaps best known for her recently Oscar-nominated film role as Marion McPherson in "Lady Bird," as well as her TV role as Jackie Harris in "Roseanne," which earned her three Emmy Awards in 1992, 1993 and 1994. Other notable screen credits include "Desperately Seeking Susan," "Leaving Las Vegas," "Uncle Buck," "JFK," "Internal Affairs," and Pixar's "Toy Story" franchise.

Alison Pill earned a Tony Award nomination in 2006 for her Broadway debut in The Lieutenant of Inishmore. Her subsequent Broadway credits include Mauritius (2007), The Miracle Worker (2010) and The House of Blue Leaves (2011). She has also appeared off-Broadway in MCC Theater's The Distance From Here (2004) and reasons to be pretty (2008), Playwrights Horizons' On the Mountain (2005), Manhattan Theatre Club's Blackbird (2007) and This Wide Night (2010). Her many screen credits include "American Horror Story," "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," "The Family," "Hail, Caesar!," "The Newsroom," "Cooties," "Snowpiercer," "Goon," "Midnight in Paris," "The Pillars of the Earth," "Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen," and "Milk."

Three Tall Women Tickets are available now for performances through to June 24, 2018.
