Debra Jo Rupp to star in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of The Cake
The Cake begins performances at New York City Center on February 12, 2019.
Debra Jo Rupp is set to star in the previously announced Manhattan Theatre Club New York premiere of The Cake, written by Emmy Award nominee Bekah Brunstetter and helmed by MTC's Artistic Director Lynne Meadow. Ms. Rupp will reprise the role of Della, which she originated at Los Angeles' Echo Theatre, and subsequently played at Barrington Stage Company and Geffen Playhouse. She is perhaps best known for her TV appearances in such hit series as "That 70s Show," "Friends" and "This Is Us."
Additional casting and creative team information will be announced at a later date.
Previews begin at New York City Center's Stage I on February 12, 2019, ahead of an official opening on March 5 and a limited engagement through to March 31, 2019.
Synopsis: "All is going well for Della. Her North Carolina bakery is legendary and she's just been cast on her favorite television baking competition. But then, her late-best-friend's daughter comes home from New York City to ask her to make a cake for her upcoming wedding. When Della learns that Jen's about to marry a woman, she is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs, as questions of morals, judgment and family swirl around them all."
Playwright Bekah Brunstetter has been represented off-Broadway with The Oregon Trail, Oohrah! and Be a Good Little Widow and she also earned an Emmy Award nomination in 2017 as a producer of NBC's "This Is Us".
The Cake Tickets are available now for performances from February 12 through to March 31, 2019.
