"Legion" and "Downton Abbey" star Dan Stevens is set to return to Broadway this spring, marking his first outing on the Great White Way since the 2012 revival of The Heiress. Stevens has been cast as Mooney in the upcoming Broadway premiere of Oscar & Olivier Award winner and four-time Tony Award nominee Martin McDonagh's comedy Hangmen.

Joining Stevens in the cast will be Olivier Award nominee Mark Addy (as Harry), two-time Olivier Award winner Tracie Bennett (as Alice), Ewen Bremner (as Syd), Owen Campbell (as Clegg), Gaby French (as Shirley), Olivier Award nominee John Hodgkinson (as Pierrepoint), Richard Hollis (as Bill), and John Horton (as Arthur). Additional casting will be announced in due course.

As previously reported, the Royal Theatre/Atlantic Theater Company production is directed by Olivier Award nominee Matthew Dunster and is set to play a limited 20-week engagement at Broadway's Golden Theatre from February 28 through July 18, 2020, with an official opening on March 19.

Synopsis: "England 1965 - What is Britain's (second most) famous executioner to do now that hanging has been abolished? The simple answer is a lot more than he bargained for. In his small pub in the northern English town of Oldham, Harry is something of a local celebrity and the cub reporters and pub regulars are dying to hear Harry's reaction to the news, while his old assistant Syd and the mysterious Mooney lurk with very different motives for their visit."

Mr. McDonagh is perhaps best known for his screenplays of the hit films "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," "Seven Psychopaths," and "In Bruges." In addition, he has earned four Tony Award nominations - for The Lieutenant of Inishmore (2006), The Pillowman (2005), The Lonesome West (1999), and The Beauty Queen of Leenane (1998). His most recent Broadway credits include 2014's The Cripple of Inishmaan and 2010's A Behanding in Spokane, and, across the pond, he has won a total of three Olivier Awards, including 'Best New Play' for Hangmen in 2016.

The creative team behind Hangmen on Broadway features scenic & costume design by Olivier Award winner Anna Fleischle, lighting design by Joshua Carr and sound design by Olivier Award winner Ian Dickinson.

Hangmen staged its world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in London in September 2015, quickly transferring to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre in December of that same year and ultimately going on to win 'Best New Play' and 'Best Set Design' at the 2016 Olivier Awards. The play's Off-Broadway premiere was presented by Atlantic Theater Company from January through March 2018.

The Broadway premiere is produced by Robert Fox, Jean Doumanian & Elizabeth I. McCann.
