UPDATE: The Broadway premiere of Hangmen at the Golden Theatre was canceled after just 13 preview performances due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The widely celebrated Royal Court Theatre/Atlantic Theater Company production of Academy & Olivier Award winner Martin McDonagh’s comedy Hangmen, directed by Olivier Award nominee Matthew Dunster, lands on Broadway in spring 2020.
Hangmen staged its world premiere at the Royal Court Theatre in London in September 2015, transferring to the West End's Wyndham's Theatre in December of that year and ultimately winning 'Best New Play' at the 2016 Olivier Awards. Hangmen's Off-Broadway premiere was subsequently presented by Atlantic Theater Company from January through March 2018.
British-Irish playwright Martin McDonagh is renowned for his dark sense of humor and is perhaps best known for his Oscar-nominated screenplays of “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” and “In Bruges.” He also served as director for those feature films and, in addition, he wrote and directed the acclaimed 2012 movie “Seven Psychopaths.” A four-time Tony Award nominee, McDonagh has been equally successful on the Great White Way as on the silver screen. Hangmen marks his seventh Broadway credit, after previous productions of The Cripple of Inishmaan (2014), A Behanding in Spokane (2010), The Lieutenant of Inishmore (2006), The Pillowman (2005), The Lonesome West (1999), and The Beauty Queen of Leenane (1998).
Hangmen also boasts a stellar original Broadway cast, which includes the likes of “Game of Thrones” and “The Full Monty” favorite Mark Addy, two-time Olivier Award-winning West End star Tracie Bennett (who also received a 2012 Tony nomination for her celebrated Broadway debut as Judy Garland in End of the Rainbow), and “Downton Abbey” and “Legion” star Dan Stevens, who makes his Broadway debut with the production.
Hangmen is a wickedly funny slice of Great British drama on the Great White Way!
