S.Paulson-200

Sarah Paulson returns to Broadway to star in Second Stage Theater's production of Appropriate on Broadway in fall 2023.

Sarah Catharine Paulson is a stage and screen actress who has received Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Awards in her three-decade career. She was born December 17, 1974 in Tampa, Florida, but she moved to New York City in early childhood. She began her acting career right out of high school, making her Broadway debut in 1994 as an understudy in Wendy Wasserstein's The Sisters Rosensweig. She later took on the role of Tess Goode in the production.

She made her feature film debut in the indie thriller Levitation, and since then, Paulson has become a prolific screen actor. She is a regular collaborator of filmmaker and producer Ryan Murphy, appearing in multiple of his shows, including Ratched (as Nurse Ratched), Impeachment: American Crime Story (as Linda Tripp), and The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story (as Marcia Clark). Her performance as Clark earned her Golden Globe and Emmy Awards for Best Lead Actress.

Paulson is perhaps best known for starring in nine seasons of Murphy's American Horror Story, first appearing on the show in 2011. Her performances collectively earned nine Emmy Award nominations.

The actress also regularly returns to the stage. She has appeared in two other Broadway productions: 2005's The Glass Menagerie (as Amanda Wingfield) and 2010's Collected Stories (originating the role of Lisa Morrison). She has also appeared in six Off-Broadway productions between 1994 and 2013, including Crimes of the Heart and, most recently, the Pulitzer-nominated Talley's Folly with Roundabout Theatre Company.

Her other Off-Broadway credits include Still Life and Colder Than Here at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, Killer Joe at SoHo Playhouse, and Talking Pictures at Signature Theatre.

In 2023, after 10 years away from the New York stage, Paulson returns to Broadway as Toni in Appropriate, the Broadway-debut play of Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.
