The off-Broadway premiere of Midnight at the Never Get begins performances on October 2, 2018.
York Theatre Company has announced the complete cast and creative team for its first Mainstage production of the 2018-2019 season, to be staged at the company's off-Broadway home at Saint. Peter's in East Manhattan.
The previously announced off-Broadway premiere of new musical Midnight at the Never Get, which is scheduled to play a limited engagement from October 2 to November 4, 2018, with an opening night set for October 11, will feature Sam Bolen, Jeremy Cohen, and Jon J. Peterson.
Midnight at the Never Get features a book, music, and lyrics by Mark Sonnenblick and is co-conceived by Sam Bolen.
Synopsis: "Midnight at the Never Get tells the story of singer Trevor Copeland and songwriter Arthur Brightman who have the perfect New York romance, and that's swell. In 1965, it's also against the law. So in the back room of The Never Get, an illegal Greenwich Village gay bar, they put together a show called Midnight—a nightclub act where Trevor sings Arthur's love songs with their male pronouns intact. But, as the lovers hurtle towards the end of the decade, they find themselves caught in a passion they can't control and a political revolution they don't understand. Featuring a seductive score inspired by the Great American Songbook, Midnight at the Never Get is a sultry meditation on identity, memory, and enduring romance."
Under the direction of Max Friedman, the creative team behind Midnight at the Never Get features choreography by Andrew Palermo, music direction & arrangements by Adam Podd, scenic design by Christopher Swader and Justin Swader, costume design by Vanessa Leuck, lighting design by Jamie Roderick, sound design by Kevin Heard, and props design by Addison Heeren.
Midnight at the Never Get is presented off-Broadway by arrangement with Visceral Entertainment and Mark Cortale Productions.
The new musical was first produced as part of the New York Musical Festival in 2016 and went on to be staged as a fully immersive club venue experience in Provincetown, Massachusetts in 2017.
York Theatre Company's next Mainstage production will be the premiere of new musical comedy Christmas in Hell, which features a book, music, and lyrics by Gary Apple, and is directed and choreographed by Bill Castellino. The limited engagement is scheduled to run from December 4 to 30, 2018, with an official opening set for December 9.
