Chicago follows housewife-turned-murderess Roxie Hart, whose crimes make her a local celebrity thanks to her smooth-talking lawyer, Billy Flynn. She competes with vaudeville star Velma Kelly, also in prison, for the attention and sympathy of Billy and the press, in the hopes of getting acquitted.

This Chicago production is a revival, following the original Broadway premiere in 1975, which ran for two years. This iteration, currently playing at the Ambassador Theatre, celebrates its 26th anniversary on November 14; its first performance was on that date in 1996.

A 20th-anniversary review of Chicago on New York Theatre Guide reads, "All you need is a live band on stage, intoxicating the auditorium with that jazz-infused score from the genius that is John Kander and Fred Ebb and sprinkle it with that Bob Fosse-style choreography, and before you know it, you’ve razzle dazzled ‘em!"

The current Chicago Broadway cast includes Charlotte d’Amboise as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Ryan Silverman as Billy Flynn, Charity Angél Dawson as Matron “Mama” Morton, Isaac Mizrahi as Amos Hart, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
