Becky Shaw: Second Stage Theatre announces full cast


Second Stage Theatre have announced the full cast for their production of Gina Gionfriddo's comedy, Becky Shaw, directed by Peter DuBois.

The recent runaway hit of the Humana Festival, Becky Shaw will open at the Second Stage Theatre on 8 Jan 2009, following previews from 16 Dec 2008, and playing through to 1 Feb 2009.

In Becky Shaw, a newlywed couple fixes up two romantically challenged friends: wife's best friend, meet husband's sexy and strange new co-worker. When an evening calculated to bring happiness takes a dark turn, crisis and comedy ensue in this wickedly funny new play that asks what we owe the people we love and the strangers who land on our doorstep.

The cast will features David Wilson Barnes (reprising his acclaimed performance from the world premiere production at the Humana Festival), Emily Bergl, Kelly Bishop, Annie Parisse (who created the title role of Becky Shaw in the world premiere production at the Humana Festival) and Thomas Sadoski.

Becky Shaw will feature scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by David Weiner, and sound design by Walter Trarbach.

Bios:

David Wilson Barnes appeared in the world premiere production of Becky Shaw at the Humana Festival. Barnes has appeared on Broadway in 'The Lieutenant of Inishmore' (2006). Off-Broadway he played the role of 'Francisco' in the Public's 1999 production of 'Hamlet.'

Emily Bergl's Broadway credits include 'A Touch of the Poet' (2005 revival), 'The Rivals' (2004 revival). 'The Lion in Winter' (1999 revival) and understudied in 'Ah, Wilderness!' (1998 revival). She last appeared off-Broadway earlier this year in Second Stage Theatre's production of 'Some Americans Abroad.'

Kelly Bishop won a Tony Award for her performance as 'Sheila' in 'A Chorus Line' (1975). Other Broadway credits include 'Proposals' (1997), 'The Last Night of Ballyhoo' (1997), 'Bus Stop' (1996 revial), 'Six Degrees of Separation' (1990), amongst others. Bishop last appeared off-Broadway in 'The Last Girl Singer' in 1995 at the Judith Anderson Theatre.

Annie Parisse has appeared on Broadway in 'Prelude to a Kiss' (2007 revival). Off-Broadway credits iclude: 'The Internationalist' at the Vineyard Theatre, 'Monster' at East 13th Street/CSC Theatre and 'The Credeaux Canvas' at Playwrights Horizons.

Thomas Sadoski has appeared on Broadway in 'Reckless' (2004). Off-Broadway he recently starred as 'Greg' in MCC Theater' production of LaBute's 'reasons to be pretty.' Other Off-Broadway credits include Second Stage Theatre's production of 'All This Intimacy,' 'The Mistakes Madeline Made' at 45 Bleecker, 'Jump/Cut' at 'Women's Project Theatre,' amongst others.

Gina Gionfriddo's (playwright) 'After Ashley,' produced by the Vineyard Theatre, was nominated for a 2005 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play.

Peter DuBois is the newly appointed Artistic Director of Boston's Huntington Theatre Company. Also a former Artistic Director of Alaska's innovative Perseverance Theatre Company, DuBois' recent work includes the Obie Award-winning production of David Grimm's 'Measure for Pleasure,' as well as 'Richard III' starring Peter Dinklage (both at the Public Theatre) and the LAByrinth Theatre Company's co-production of Bob Glaudini's 'Jack Goes Boating.'
