Ann, starring Holland Taylor, to close on 1 Sep 2013
Ann, a new play written and performed by Emmy Award-winning actress Holland Taylor, has extended its run through to 01 Sep 2013, which will also be the show's closing date.
Ann opened on Broadway at Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaumont Theater on 7 Mar 2013, following previews from 18 Feb 2013.
The show opened to mostly excellent reviews: A hopeful, vibrant evening all around (newyorktheatreguide.com); Bright, peppy and unreflecting (NY Times); Plenty of heart, but it lacks drama (NYP); It's infectious, and we're helplessly drawn in (NY1).
Directed by Benjamin Endsley Klein, Ann is a no-holds-barred portrait of the Governor of the Lone Star State, Ann Richards. Richards dedicated her life to empowering, expanding and enriching the lives of her constituents, friends and family
Ann began as a project and quest for Taylor to understand what it was about this housewife, mother, grandmother, leader and iconic patriot that affected so many people so deeply. Writing the play became a four year journey for Taylor, crisscrossing the country, interviewing people who knew the Governor, watching countless hours of video coverage, and pouring over reams of Richards' personal and public papers at the University of Texas. In the end, her greatest resources were the family, friends, staff and colleagues of the Governor who allowed Holland to "know" Ann Richards.
The creative team features scenic design by Michael Fagin, costume design by Julie Weiss, lighting design by Matthew Richards and sound design by Ken Huncovsky.
The play is being produced on Broadway by Arielle Tepper Madover, Roger Horchow, Sally Horchow, Roger Berlind, Roy Furman, Debbie Bisno, Stacey Mindich, Nederlander Presentations, Inc., Daryl Roth/Jane Bergère and Eva Price/Christina Papagjika.
