An Enemy of the People extends by one week

Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway production of a new version of Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, adapted by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, has extended its run by one week and will now play through to 18 Nov 2012.

An Enemy of the People opened at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 27 Sep 2012, following previews from 4 Sep 2012. The show was originally scheduled to close on 11 Nov 2012.

The show opened to mixed reviews: A splendid production (newyorktheatreguide); High-intensity, high-volume (NY Times); Coherent, topical, and thrilling (Back Stage) Stiff and dusty (Record); Looks terribly wooden (Newsroom Jersey).

The show stars four-time Tony Award-winner Boyd Gaines as 'Dr. Thomas Stockmann' and Emmy Award winner Richard Thomas as 'Mayor Peter Stockmann,' Maïté Alina (Broadway debut) as 'Petra Stockmann,' Gerry Bamman (The Merchant of Venice) as 'Aslaksen,' Kathleen McNenny (Death of a Salesman) as 'Catherine Stockmann,' Randall Newsome (Inherit The Wind) as 'Horster,' John Procaccino (Blood and Gifts) as 'Hovstad,' Michael Siberry (Mrs. Warren's Profession) as 'Morton Kiil' and James Waterston (Parents Evening) as 'Billing.'

They are joined by Mike Boland, Victoria Frings, Andrew Hovelson, John Robert Tillotson (also playing 'The Drunk') and Ray Virta.

When Dr. Thomas Stockmann (Boyd Gaines) discovers toxic contamination in the water used at the local baths, he expects to be hailed as a hero. But since the baths are the town's main source of revenue, the community fights to silence him... and Dr. Stockmann learns that there are forces more powerful than truth.

The creative team for An Enemy of the People includes set design by John Lee Beatty, costumes by Catherine Zuber, lighting by Ben Stanton and sound by David Van Tieghem.
