The Story of My Life: musical by N. Bartram & B. Hill aims to play on Broadway from 3 Feb


According to an Equity Casting notice The Story of My Life aims to open on Broadway on 19 Feb 2009, following previews from 3 Feb 2009, at a theatre to be announced.

The Story of My Life tells the story of Thomas Weaver, a successful writer who returns to his hometown to deliver the eulogy at the funeral of his lifelong friend, Alvin Kelby. Unable to find the appropriate words to celebrate his friend�s life, Thomas pages through the story of their lives together, from their unconventional introduction to their ultimate estrangement, in search of his role in his friend�s untimely death.

The musical had its premiere at Toronto's Canadian Stage Company in 2006, and recently had a developmental run at Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals from 10 Oct - 2 Nov 2008, and starred Will Chase as 'Thomas Weaver' and Malcolm Gets as 'Alvin Kelby,' with direction by Richard Maltby, Jr.

The Story of My Life's Broadway premiere will once agian see Richard Maltby, Jr., direct Will Chase and Malcolm Gets.

The musical had its premiere at Toronto's Canadian Stage Company in 2006.

The Equity casting notice, which is seeking one understudy for the two roles, deesribes the musicals only two characters as:

Thomas Weaver: Mid - late 30s. Character ages from age 6 to age 35. A success � handsome, strong and confident. He has, however, embraced success at the expense of his personal life. The play follows his journey from a carefree six-year-old to a conflicted and emotionally blocked 35-year-old and takes place, for the most part, in his mind and memory. He acts as an observer and a narrator at different times in the play. Baritenor.

Alvin Kelby: Mid - late 30s. Character ages from age 6 to age 35. Thomas's best friend from childhood to adulthood. A youthful, childlike and sensitive free-spirit with a unique perspective on life. Also possesses an undercurrent of serenity. His adoration for his friend is complete and unconditional. Baritenor.

There has been no official confirmation of the production.

Will Chase's Broadway credits include: 'Miss Saigon' (Chris - replacement), Rent (Roger Davis/Mark Cohen - replacement), Aida (Radames - replacement), 'The Full Monty' (Jerry Lukowski - replacement), 'Lennon' and 'High Fidelity' (Rob).

Malcolm Gets was nominated for a Tony for his work in 'Amour' (Dusoleil), his other Broadway credits include 'The Moli�re Comedies' (Val�re/Mme. Sgaranelle's brother) and 'Dreamgirls' (Film Executive).

Richard Maltby, Jr. won a Tony Award for his direction of 'Ain't Misbehavin' (1978), and has been nominated for Tony's for his helmship of 'Baby' (1983), 'Song and Dance' (1985) and 'Fosse' (1999). He is also a noted librettist and lyricist, and has been nominated for Tony's for 'Baby' (1983), 'Song and Dance' (1985), 'Miss Saigon' (1991), 'Nick & Nora' (1991) and 'Big' (1996).

The Story of My Life marks the Broadway debut of Canadian writers Neil Bartram and Brian Hill.
