Signature Theatre adds second extension for Fires in the Mirror
Anna Deavere Smith’s Fires in the Mirror is now scheduled to play its final performance at Pershing Square Signature Center on December 8, 2019.
Signature Theatre has announced a second 1-week extension for its upcoming production of Anna Deavere Smith’s Fires in the Mirror, which is set to begin performances at Pershing Square Signature Center's Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre on October 22, 2019, ahead of an official opening on November 11. The play was originally scheduled to play its final performance on November 24, 2019, before an initial extension through December 1, and it will now close on December 8, 2019.
Directed by Saheem Ali, Fires in the Mirror is a response to the deaths of an African-American boy and a young Orthodox Jewish scholar in the summer of 1991, which led to racial tensions in the nestled community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn erupting into a civil outbreak.
Michael Benjamin Washington, who appeared in the Tony Award-winning production of The Boys in the Band at the Booth Theatre last year, is set to star in the Signature Theatre production, as well as the upcoming Netflix television adaptation of the play, set for release in 2020.
The creative team features scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede M. Ayite, lighting design by Alan C. Edwards, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, and projection design by Hannah Wasileski, with dialect coaching by Dawn-Elin Fraser.
Fires in the Mirror Tickets are available now for performances from October 22 through December 8, 2019.
