Roundabout's The Humans transfers to Broadway

It has been announced that the Roundabout Theatre Company production of Stephen Karam's latest drama The Humans, directed by Joe Mantello, will transfer to Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre where it will begin previews on 23 January 2016, with an opening night set for 18 February 2016.

The NY premiere of The Humans began previews off-Broadway at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold & Miriam Steinberg Centre for Theatre on 30 September 2015 and officially opened on 25 October. The limited engagement now plays through to 3 January 2016.

The complete cast of The Humans will transfer to Broadway, including Cassie Beck (Aimee), Reed Birney (Erik), Jayne Houdyshell (Deirdre), Lauren Klein (Fiona 'Momo' Blake), Arian Moayed (Richard), and Sarah Steele (Brigid).

Synopsis: "After a sleepless night, Mr. Blake has brought his family from Pennsylvania to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter's new apartment. As darkness falls outside the crumbling pre-war duplex, mysterious things start to go bump in the night and family tensions reach a boiling point. Stephen Karam takes a look at the hilarity, heart and horrors of the modern American family."

The Humans features scenic design by David Zinn, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Justin Townsend, and sound design by Fitz Patton. It will be produced on Broadway by Scott Rudin and Barry Diller, alongside the Roundabout Theatre Company.

This marks playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist Stephen Karam's second commission by The Roundabout Theatre Company, as part of their New Play Initiative. His first commission came in the form of his 2011 offering 'Sons of the Prophet'. His 2007 play 'Speech & Debate' also featured as the inaugural production of the Roundabout Underground program. This Broadway transfer marks Karam's Broadway debut.
