Michael Benjamin Washington to star in Fires in the Mirror at Pershing Square Signature Center

Fires in the Mirror is set to begin performances at The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre on October 22, 2019.

Casting and creatives have ben announced for Signature Theatre's upcoming production of Anna Deavere Smith's play Fires in the Mirror, which begins performances at Pershing Square Signature Center on October 22, 2019.

Directed by Saheem Ali, the play is a response to the deaths of an African-American boy and a young Orthodox Jewish scholar in the summer of 1991, which led to racial tensions in the nestled community of Crown Heights, Brooklyn erupting into a civil outbreak.

The production will star Michael Benjamin Washington, who appeared in the Broadway production of The Boys in the Band at the Booth Theatre last year, and is set to appear in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of the play, set for release in 2020.

The creative team will include scenic design by Arnulfo Maldonado, costume design by Dede M. Ayite, lighting design by Alan C. Edwards, sound design by Mikaal Sulaiman, and projection design by Hannah Wasileski, and dialect coaching by Dawn-Elin Fraser.

Fires in the Mirror is set to play the The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at Pershing Square Signature Center from October 22 through November 24, 2019, with an official opening on November 11.
