Mamma Mia! will now close on 12 September 2015
The ABBA-inspired musical Mamma Mia!, the 8th longest-running show in Broadway history, has pushed back its closing date by one week and will now play its final performance at the Broadhurst Theatre on 12 September 2015, after 14 years on the Great White Way.
Producer Judy Craymer previously released the following statement:
"Mamma Mia! has celebrated a passionate 14-year love affair with New York City. I am thrilled that Mamma Mia! has brought the music of ABBA to Broadway and so grateful to the hundreds of wonderful actors, musicians, stage managers, crew, front of house staff and the other people of the theatre who have given their professional lives and souls to be part of the Mamma Mia! family and adventure on Broadway. And a huge thank you to our fans who have come from all over the world to see the show. It's an honour to be recognised as one of the most popular shows in Broadway history and we're looking forward to celebrating our last summer at the Broadhurst Theatre."Mamma Mia! opened at Winter Garden on 18 October 2001, following previews from 5 October 2001. The production later transferred to the Broadhurst Theatre where it began performances on 2 November 2013.
Mamma Mia! has music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with book by Catherine Johnson.
Synopsis: "Mamma Mia! is inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs. Tony Award nominated writer Catherine Johnson's sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a tiny Greek island. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited twenty years ago."
Songs including "Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes It All," "Money, Money, Money," and "Take A Chance on Me" are all featured.
The principal cast of Mamma Mia! currently features Judy McLane (Donna Sheridan), Elena Ricardo (Sophie Sheridan), Alison Ewing (Tanya), Mary Callanan (Rosie), Victor Wallace (Sam Carmichael), John Hemphill (Bill Austin), Paul DeBoy (Harry Bright), Jon Jorgenson (Sky), Neil Starkenberg (Pepper), Thomasina E. Gross (Lisa), Traci Victoria (Ali) and Taurean Everett (Eddie).
The musical is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and has choreography by Anthony Van Laast, set design by Mark Thompson, lighting design by Howard Harrison, sound design by Andrew Bruce and Bobby Aitken, and musical supervision, additional material and arrangements by Martin Koch.
The show is produced by Judy Craymer, Richard East and Björn Ulvaeus for Littlestar in association with Universal.
