UPDATE: Gordon will play her final performance on April 3. Jewelle Blackman, who was in the original Hadestown cast as one of the Fates and a Persephone understudy, will take over the role April 5. Soara-Joye Ross will replace Blackman as a Fate.

She's livin' it up on top! Lana Gordon is set to star as Persephone in Hadestown beginning February 22. She replaces Amber Gray, who originated the role on Broadway and received a Featured Actress Tony nomination. Gray departs the show on February 19.

Gordon has appeared on Broadway as Velma Kelly in Chicago and in the original cast of The Lion King. Currently, she is the Persephone alternate at Hadestown, playing the role only at certain performances.

Hadestown opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre in 2019 and received eight Tony Awards that year, including Best Musical. The show, created by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, is a retelling of the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and Hades and Persephone. When Eurydice is trapped in the "underworld" of Hadestown, here reimagined as an industrial factory, her lover, Orpheus, takes a dangerous journey to rescue her.
