The American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice, the nation’s largest alternative weekly newspaper, have now announced that Tony Award nominee and three-time Obie Award winner Kathleen Chalfant will receive a special Obie Award for Lifetime Achievement at The 63rd Annual OBIE Awards ceremony, which is set to take place on May 21, 2018 at Terminal 5 on West 56th Street.

Ms. Chalfant earned a Tony nomination in 1993 for her performance in the Broadway premiere of Angels in America and previously made her Broadway debut in the 1988 premiere of M. Butterfly. She was last seen on the Great White Way in the 1995 premiere of Racing Demon. Off-Broadway she has accumulated a grand total of 38 acting credits to date and most recently starred in Playwrights Horizons' For Peter Pan on her 70th Birthday in fall 2017. Notable credits include the role of Vivian Bearing, Ph.D. in Wit and Susan in Talking Heads, and she has worked for major off-Broadway producing companies such as WP Theater, Manhattan Theatre Club, Vineyard Theatre, New York Theatre Workshop, MCC Theater, Classic Stage Company, Lincoln Center Theater, and The Public Theater among others.

As previously reported, Emmy and Obie Award winner John Leguizamo will officially host The 63rd Annual OBIE Awards ceremony.

For the past 63 years the OBIE Awards have honored the best of Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway. Structured with informal categories that change annually, The OBIE Awards recognize persons and productions of excellence. Unlike most theatre awards, the OBIE Awards have no nominations.
