After her Tony and Grammy Award-winning success with the Broadway premiere of Kinky Boots, it seems that Cyndi Lauper has signed on for her next Broadway project.

She has teamed up with "New Girl" scribe Kim Rosenstock to write a musical adaptation of Twentieth Century Fox's hugely popular 1988 movie Working Girl.

Ms. Lauper released the following statement:

"I'm really excited for so many reasons to start composing the score for Working Girl. I love the film, and its story about a woman's very unconventional road to success in the '80s is something I know a lot about. Women are still fighting for fundamental rights and equal pay! It's also laugh-out-loud funny, which is why Kim Rosenstock is the perfect person to write the book. Plus, I get to work with Robyn Goodman, who is really smart and a great producer, as well as Fox Stage Productions."

Fox Stage Productions is the live theatre division of Twentieth Century Fox and is currently represented on the Great White Way by the Broadway premiere of Anastasia. Other stage productions in development include Mrs. Doubtfire, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, All About Eve, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Working Girl will be co-produced with Robyn Goodman's Aged In Wood Productions, however, a timeline for the musical, as well as casting information, will be announced at a later date.

After its release in 1988, Working Girl went on to be nominated for an Academy Award for "Best Picture," won the Golden Globe for "Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy" and grossed over $100 million worldwide at the box office. Directed by Mike Nichols, the cast included Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Alec Baldwin, Joan Cusack, Oliver Platt, Kevin Spacey, Jeffrey Nordling, Olympia Dukakis, and David Duchovny.
