The York Theatre Company has announced complete casting for the Off-Broadway premiere of the musical Yank!, featuring music by Joseph Zellnik, book and lyrics by David Zellnik, and directed by Igor Goldin. The musical opens at The Theatre at Saint Peter's on 24 Feb 2010, following previews from 16 Feb and is currently selling tickets through to 21 Mar 2010.
Joining the previously announced Bobby Steggert (Ragtime, 110 in the Shade), the cast of Yank! includes Nancy Anderson (Wonderful Town, A Class Act), Jeffry Denman (White Christmas, The Producers), Ivan Hernandez (Romantic Poetry, The Fantasticks), Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening), Zak Edwards (Encores! No No Nanette), Todd Faulkner (PBS' "Wordscape"), Denis Lambert (A Chorus Line), Joseph Medeiros (Guys and Dolls, Grease), David Perlman (Calvin Berger at Barrington Stage), Christopher Ruth (Happy Days at Paper Mill/Goodspeed) and Tally Sessions (South Pacific).
Set during World War II, Yank! chronicles the relationship between two servicemen long before "Don't-ask-don't-tell" was part of the national discussion. With a lively score inspired by the pop sounds of the 1940's, Yank! captures the spirit and exuberance of the era as it explores questions of prejudice, courage and survival.
Honors for Yank! include a GLAAD Media Award nomination, a NYMF Audience Award for Best Musical and the New York Innovative Theater Award for Outstanding Musical Production.
The creative team for Yank! also includes music direction by John Baxindine, choreography by Jeffry Denman, set design by Ray Klausen, costume design by Tricia Barsamian and lighting design by Ken Lapham. The musical is produced by arrangement with Maren Berthelsen, Pamela Koslow, Stuart Wilk, Matt Schicker, Hugh Hayes and Jim Kierstead.
