Will new musical Bright Star land on Broadway?

Producer Joey Parnes announced today that the new original musical Bright Star written by Steve Martin and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Edie Brickell, will play a limited run in Washington D.C at the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theater ahead of an anticipated opening on Broadway in Spring 2016.

Directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie the musical will begin performances on 2 December 2015 and run to 10 January 2016, with an official opening on 17 December 2015.

Inspired by a true event, Bright Star is described as a "wholly original new musical". It tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and 40s. When successful literary editor Alice Murphy meets an ambitious young soldier just home from World War II, their connection inspires Alice to confront her past. Together they discover a stunning secret with the power to transform their lives.

The production features music and book by Steve Martin and music and lyrics by Edie Brickell. Choreography is by Josh Rhodes, with scenic design by Eugene Lee, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.
