The Broadway premiere of War Paint, starring two-time Tony Award winners Patti LuPone and Christine Ebersole, had previously posted a closure notice and would play its final performance at the Nederlander Theatre on December 30, 2017. However, producers have now been forced to post an earlier closure notice for November 5, citing the fact that Ms. LuPone must undergo necessary and immediate hip replacement surgery as the reason.

The musical began previews on March 7, 2017, and officially opened on April 6. Upon closing, the Broadway production will have played a total of 33 previews and 236 regular performances.

Patti LuPone issued the following statement:

"It is with great sadness that I must leave War Paint to undergo hip replacement surgery. For several months I have been performing in a great deal of pain. My producers David Stone and Marc Platt have provided an incredible team who, through physical therapy, chiropractic and acupuncture, have enabled me to continue on stage. But the pain has now become too intense and I have no other choice but to leave Christine, John, Doug, and this wonderfully supportive company of actors, who I've had the great privilege to work with for over a year. I will miss them more than I can express."

War Paint features music by Tony nominee Scott Frankel, lyrics by Tony nominee Michael Korie and a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Doug Wright. It is inspired by the book of the same name by Lindy Woodhead, as well as Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman's documentary film, "The Powder & the Glory."

Synopsis: "War Paint tells the remarkable story of cosmetics titans Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden, who defined beauty standards for the first half of the 20th Century. Brilliant innovators with humble roots, both women were masters of self-invention who sacrificed everything to become the country's first major female entrepreneurs. They were also fierce competitors, whose 50-year tug-of-war would give birth to an industry that would forever change the face of America. From Fifth Avenue society to the halls of Congress, their intense rivalry was ruthless, relentless and legendary—pushing both women to build international empires in a world dominated by men."

Directed by Tony nominee Michael Greif, the cast of War Paint includes two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone (Helena Rubinstein), two-time Tony winner Christine Ebersole (Elizabeth Arden), Tony nominee John Dossett (Tommy Lewis), and Tony nominee Douglas Sills (Harry Fleming), alongside Barbara Jo Bednarczuk, Patti Cohenor, Mary Ernster, Tom Galantich, David Girolmo, Joanna Glushak, Chris Hoch, Mary Claire King, Stefanie Leigh, Erik Liberman, Barbara Marineau, Donna Migliaccio, Stephanie Jae Park, Angel Reda, Jennifer Rias and Tally Sessions.

The creative team behind War Paint features choreography by Tony winner Christopher Gattelli, music direction by Lawrence Yurman, orchestrations by Bruce Coughlin, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Kenneth Posner and sound design by Brian Ronan.

War Paint is produced on Broadway by David Stone and Marc Platt.

The world premiere of War Paint took place in July 2016 with a record-breaking, sold-out engagement at Chicago's Goodman Theatre.
