'Walk Two Moons' at the Lucille Lortel Theatre

THEATREWORKS/NYC, the recently-formed Manhattan-based arm of THEATREWORKS/USA, will christen its new home at the Lucille Lortel Theatre with the world premiere of the play Walk Two Moons, by Julia Jordan, based on Sharon Creechs book of the same name.

Walk Two Moons opens on the 13 Jul, following previews from the 7 Jul and runs through to the 14 Aug 2005.

Walk Two Moons follows a girl on road trip across the country with her eccentric grandparents. Her tales of life back home, by turns hilarious and touching, create a journey within a journey as she and her know-it-all best friend discover that things arent always what they seem. Walk Two Moons's cast, directed by Melissa Kievman, includes Heather Dilly, Charles Hyman, Sarah Lord, Susan OConnor, Lucas Papaelias, and Peggy Scott. The production has sets design by Louisa Thompson, costumes by Anne Kennedy and lighting by Paul Hackenmueller, with incidental music by Lucas Papaelias.

THEATREWORKS/USA, Americas foremost not-for-profit professional theatre for family audiences, announced in April the establishment of THEATREWORKS/NYC: giving the company a theatrical home in New York City for the first time in its 45-year history. THEATREWORKS/NYC will present four major shows in the 2005-2006 season at the Lortel, plus a special series for the youngest audiencesof music, puppets, magic, and more.

We are so excited to finally be able to perform in New York City for extended runs, said Artistic Director Barbara Pasternack. Up until this new residency at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, weve never performed in the City for more than a long weekend. We can now serve hundreds more families throughout the New York area. This is something weve dreamed about for years.

Settling down into the Lortel will allow us to expand our signature distribution of underwritten tickets, adds Managing Director Ken Arthur. Our goal has always been to provide entertainment to children and their families, regardless of their ability to pay. Now, with longer runs in Manhattan and with the help of New York corporations, foundations, and individuals, we have that opportunity.
