Vineyard Theatre Announces 2014/2015 Season
The off-Broadway non-profit Vineyard Theatre has announced its complete 32nd season which will run throughout 2014/15, including two new plays and a brand new piece of musical theatre.
Continuing their dedication to the creating and producing daring new plays and musicals, their first play in the season will by Billy & Ray, a "whip-smart comedy charting the birth of the film noir genre".
Written by Mike Bencivenga, the comedy will be directed by Garry Marshall who also directed the world premiere in the spring of 2013 at the Falcon Theatre, located in Burbank, California and founded by Mr. Marshall and his daughter Kathleen Marshall LaGambina. Further creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.
Billy & Ray will run from 2 October to 9 November 2014, with an official opening night on 20 October at the Vineyard Theatre in downtown Manhattan. The play follows literary odd couple writer-director Billy Wilder and novelist Raymond Chandler as they contentiously collaborate to adapt 'Double Indemnity' for the silver screen. Set in 1940's Hollywood, it is the true story of how two artists battled the Hollywood censors and each other to create a ground-breaking movie classic.
As previously announced, The Vineyard will follow this production in the new year with Gloria by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins in the Spring of 2015, along with the world premiere of musical Brooklynite which features a book by Peter Lerman and Michael Mayer, along with music and lyrics by Peter Lerman.
Further casting, dates and details on all Vineyard productions will be released at a later date.
