Unveiled and Warning Signs at the WorkShop Theater

The Libras presents Unveiled and Warning Signs, a double-bill of one-woman shows, playing at the WorkShop Theatre from 19 Jul - 5 Aug 2006, as part of the 7th Midtown International Theatre Festival.

Unveiled, written and performed by Michele Cuomo, chronicles Cuomo's research for a production of Phaedra she directed, and her futile attempts to costume it the way she would have liked (she wanted to use a burqua as a mask worn by the title character, to empathize the repression of women and the denial of their rights in the Muslim world). A non-linear, tragi-comical look at one person's attempt to explore specific woman's issues through presentation of a Greek tragedy, only to find out that it's more complicated than originally imagined.

Warning Signs, written and performed by Maggie Surovell, is about a Jewish Vegetarian feminist with an idealistic attitude and a lot of hair tries to come to grips with the fact that the world doesn't always see things in the same way she does in this coming-of-age story about political and social enlightenment.
