TThe Anarchist to play final performance on 16 Dec 2012

The World premiere of The Anarchist, written and directed by David Mamet, has posted early closing notices and will play its final performance on 16 Dec 2012, just two weeks after opening. When the show closes the production will have played 23 previews and 17 regular performances.

The Anarchist opened at the John Golden Theatre on 02 Dec 2012, following previews from 13 Nov 2012, and was originally scheduled to close on 17 Feb 2013.

The show opened to poor reviews: Generally static play (NY Times); Short, dense and dry (NYDN); Repetitive and blunt (NYP); Droning, pompous (Back Stage); A bewildering exercise in audience exclusion (The Record).

The play stars Oscar nominee Debra Winger in her Broadway debut and Tony Award-winning Broadway vetaran Patti LuPone.

The Anarchist is a two-character play set in a women's prison. One woman has been put away for life, and the other is making sure she stays there.

The Anarchist features scenic and costume design by Patrizia Von Brandenstein and lighting design by Jeff Croiter.

The show is being produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Howard and Janet Kagan.
