Tony Awards will return to Radio City Music Hall this year
The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing have officially confirmed that the Tonys will be returning home to Radio City Music Hall this year. The 71st Annual Tony Awards - the biggest night in Broadway's theatre calendar - will take place on Sunday, 11 June 2017 at the iconic New York City venue.
Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, and Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League, released the following joint statement:
"Bringing Broadway's biggest night back to Radio City Music Hall truly feels like returning home. Over the years, we have created some magical and iconic moments at Radio City - and we are thrilled to return and share the stories of this year's incredible season on Broadway."
The Radio City Music Hall has hosted the Tonys every year since 1997 with only a few exceptions. In 1999, the ceremony was held at the Gershwin Theatre whilst Radio City underwent renovations, and in 2011, 2012 and 2016, the Beacon Theatre had the honor to host the annual event.
Continuing the tradition, CBS will broadcast the ceremony live, as it has done since 1978.
The nominations for The 71st Annual Tony Awards will be announced on Tuesday, 2 May 2017. All Broadway productions in the 2016-2017 season, who officially open on or before the eligibility cut-off date of Thursday, 27 April 2017 (and meet all other requirements) can be considered for nominations.
The host of this year's ceremony will be announced at a later date, whilst Tony winner and last year's host James Corden is already rumoured to be in the running.
