[title of show] to bow on Broadway on 5 Jul 2008
The musical comedy [Title Of Show], by Hunter Bell (Book) and Jeff Bowen, will open at Broadway's Lyceum Theatre on 17 Jul 2008, following previews from 5 Jul.
The musical, which had a limited 8 week run from the 14 Jul - 9 Sep 2006 at off-Broadway's Mint Theatre, will star the original off-Broadway cast: Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell and Heidi Blickenstaff, helmed by the same director, Michael Berresse.
Jeff Bowen, Hunter Bell, and Michael Berresse each won a 2006 Obie Award for their work on [Title Of Show].
The show began life as part of the 2005 New York Musical Theatre Festival, where it played at the Ars Nova Theatre from 11 - 17 Sep 2008, and originally told the tale of of two struggling writers named Jeff and Hunter who race to write and submit a show to the theatre festival - with the deadline just weeks away. When they enlist two of their friends to be in it, all four embark on a breathless, sweat-drenched journey. Will they finish in time? Will their show be selected? Will they keep their beloved project - and their friendships intact?
The Broadway production tells the same story, now with Broadway as their destination. The quartet's saga continues anew as they face mounting pressures and deadlines, and are nearly thrown off-track by disagreements, day jobs and insecurities in this comical look at the birth of a musical as it finally comes to life on the Great White Way.
Chronicling the story of its own creation, [Title Of Show] is a glimpse into just what it takes to get a new musical from conception to opening night.
The musical is being produced on Broadway by Kevin McCollum, Jeffrey Seller, Laura Camien, Roy Miller, Kris Stewart and The Vineyard Theatre.
McCollum, who as producer of Rent, Avenue Q, The Drowsy Chaperone and In the Heights is certainly no stranger to the unbridled hopes and raw nerve depicted in [Title Of Show] says, "I fell in love with [Title Of Show] because it shamelessly and fearlessly explores the vagaries and inner workings of how to get a musical produced. The exuberant way it captures the insanity of the creative process is full of surprises and truth, and that its journey now comes full circle by kicking off the Broadway season seems only natural."
The Broadway transfer of [Title Of Show] reunites the original Off-Broadway creative team including Neil Patel (set design); Chase Tyler (costume design); Ken Billington and Jason Kantrowitz (lighting design) and ACME Sound Partners (sound design).
The musical's schedule and ticket prices are still to be announced. Tickets will go on sale on 21 Apr 2008.
