The Testament of Mary to close on 05 May 2013
The Broadway production of Colm Tóibín's The Testament of Mary, starring Fiona Shaw and directed by Deborah Warner, and was originally scheduled to plau a limited engagement trhough to 16 Jun 2013.
The Testament of Mary, which was recently nomoinated for a Tony Award for Best Play, opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre on 22 Apr 2013, following previews from 26 Mar 2013, it was originally scheduled to play a 13-week limited Broadway engagement through to 30 Jun 2013.
The okay opened to mixed reviews: A breathtaking event (newyorktheatreguide.com); Doesn't quite work (NYT); Bold and indelibly theatrical work (NYGN); An airlessness pervades the proceedings (Back Stage); Harrowing theatrical monologue (Hollywood Reporter).
The Testament of Mary takes place after the Crucifixion. Mary (Fiona Shaw), the mother of Jesus, is in the city of Ephesus where she is both guarded and protected. As two of her son's followers set about giving shape to Jesus' story, Mary tells her own story - the one which has not been heard.
The creative team features sets by Tom Pye, costumes by Ann Roth, lighting by Jennifer Tipton, and sound design by Mel Mercier.
