A casting call posted today reveals that a new musical, The Story of My Life, music and lyrics by Neil Bartram, with book by Brian Hill will bow on Broadway in Jan 2009, directed by Richard Maltby, Jr.
The Story of My Life is a two character musical that tells the story of Thomas Weaver, a successful writer who returns to his hometown to deliver the eulogy at the funeral of his lifelong friend, Alvin Kelby. Unable to find the appropriate words to celebrate his friend�s life, Thomas pages through the story of their lives together, from their unconventional introduction to their ultimate estrangement, in search of his role in his friend�s untimely death.

Canadian's Neil Bartram and Brian Hill have written two previous musicals together, 'Somewhere in the World' and 'The Nightingale and The Rose,' and are currently working on three other works, 'Clara's Piano,' 'Not Wanted on the Voyage' and 'Aloha.'
The Story of My Life had its world premiere at CanStage in Toronto in 2006, directed by Michael Bush. The musical was presented by the National Alliance of Musical Theatre for an invited audience of NAMT members and musical theatre producers, in New York City on 7 & 8 Oct 2008. Richard Maltby Jr, directied the NAMT reading of The Story Of My Life.
Maltby has been nominated for four Tony Awards, for his work in directing musicals: 'Fosse' (1999), 'Song and Dance' (1986), 'Baby' (1984) and 'Ain't Misbehavin' (1978).
The casting call is for:
Thomas Weaver: Mid - late 30s. Character ages from age 6 to age 35. A successful and charismatic writer of inspirational stories who has embraced success at the expense of his personal life. The play follows his journey from a carefree six-year-old to a conflicted and emotionally blocked 35-year-old. Baritenor.
Alvin Kelby: Mid - late 30s. Character ages from age 6 to age 35. Thomas's best friend from childhood to adulthood. A youthful, childlike and sensitive free-spirit with a unique perspective on life. Also possesses an undercurrent of serenity. His adoration for his friend is complete and unconditional. Baritenor.
