The Singing Forest sets new dates
The Public Theater has announced that the first preview of the New York premiere of Craig Lucas' The Singing Forest has been moved to 10 Apr 2009 due to the need for additional technical rehearsals.
Directed by Mark Wing-Davey, The Singing Forest was scheduled to begin previews on 7 Apr 2009 and open on 27 Apr. The show will now open on 28 April 2009, but will stay play through to 17 May 2009 as originally announced.
The cast of nine features Mark Blum, Rob Campbell, Louis Cancelmi, Olympia Dukakis, Pierre Epstein, Jonathan Groff, Randy Harrison, Deborah Offner and Susan Pourfar.
The Singing Forest takes you on a passage through time - from today's world of Starbucks, celebrity and therapy to Freud's inner circle in 1930's Vienna and to Paris at the end of WWII. It's the story of three generations of a family whose lives are intertwined despite the secrets that have torn them apart.
The Singing Forest will feature scenic design by John McDermott, costume design by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Japhy Weideman, and original music and sound design by John Gromada.
Craig Lucas (playwright) was nominated for a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize for his play 'Prelude to a Kiss' (1990), and he was nominated for a second Tony for his book for the musical 'The Light in the Piazza' (2005). His play 'Reckless' was produced on Broadway in 2004. Lucas serves as associate artistic director at Intiman Theater in Seattle.
