The Shining City: Oliver Platt to make his Broadway debut
Manhattan Theatre Club have announced that Oliver Platt will make his Broadway debut in Conor McPherson�s The Shining City, to be directed by Robert Falls, which will open at the Biltmore Theatre on the 3 May 2006, following previews from the 13 Apr 2006.
Originally produced at London�s Royal Court Theater, The Shining City focuses on John (Oliver Platt), a guilt-ridden man who visits a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. What starts out as an everyday exchange becomes a gripping struggle to survive � a struggle that will change both men for the rest of their lives.
Oliver Platt recently garnered Emmy and Golden Globe Nominations for his work in the critically acclaimed Showtime series 'Huff,' which just completed filming its second season. Mr. Platt will also be seen in the films, Casanova, directed by Lasse Hallstrom, and Ice Harvest, in which he stars with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton. He most recently worked with Cusack on the feature Martian Child, for New Line Cinema. Other film credits include Funnybones, Bullworth, Married to the Mob, Working Girl, Flatliners, Postcards from the Edge, Indecent Proposal, The Three Musketeers, A Time to Kill, Doctor Dolittle, Simon Birch, Lake Placid, Don�t Say a Word and Pieces of April.

MTC co-produced Mr. McPherson�s play The Weir, on Broadway in 1999.
An earlier planned production of The Shining City by Barry & Fran Weissler, Scott Rudin/Paramount Pictures Corporation, Roger Berlind and Debra Black was to open at the Schoenfeld Theatre on the 10 Nov 2005, starring Rufus Sewell and Stanley Townsend (original London cast member). It was announced in August that the production had been prosponed due to "certain critical production schedules."
