The Public Theater announces 'The Tempest' Off-Broadway cast, featuring Renée Elise Goldsberry

Renée Elise Goldsberry will star as Prospero in The Public Theater's musical adaptation of The Tempest as part of the company's Public Works program.

The Public Theater has announced the cast for The Tempest as part of its Public Works program, which brings together community members from New York City’s five boroughs together on stage with professional performers.

The musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, featuring music and lyrics by Benjamin Velez, will run at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park from August 27 to September 3. The production will feature choreography by Tiffany Rae-Fisher and Laurie Woolery will direct.

Joining members of the community will be Equity actors Tristan André (Sebastian), Brianna Cabrera (Spirit Ancestor Lead Singer), Sabrina Cedeño (Trinculo), Anthony Chatmon II (Antonio), Renée Elise Goldsberry (Prospero), Jo Lampert (Ariel), Patrick O’Hare (Spirit Ancestor Lead Singer), Joel Perez (Stephano), Edwin Rivera (Spirit Ancestor Lead Singer), and Theo Stockman (Caliban). The Tempest will also showcase a special cameo group performance by Oyu Oro Cuban Experimental Dance Ensemble.

The Public Theater's Public Works community partner organizations include Brownsville Recreation Center (Brooklyn), Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education (Bronx), Center for Family Life in Sunset Park (Brooklyn), Children's Aid (all boroughs), DreamYard (Bronx), Domestic Workers United (all boroughs), The Fortune Society (Queens), and Military Resilience Foundation (all boroughs).
