The People vs Mona at Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre


Ground UP Productions presents The People vs Mona, music and lyrics by Jim Wann, book by Jim Wann and Patricia Miller, opening at the Abingdon's June Havoc Theatre on 18 Jul 2007 following previews from 12 Jul and running through to 4 Aug 2007.

The People vs Mona is a musical comedy / murder mystery about Mona Mae Katt, owner of the wildly popular musical hangout, The Frog Pad, who stands accused of killing her husband on their wedding day. If convicted, Mona will go to jail, and her beloved Frog Pad will be turned over to developers. Mona's fate (and the Frog Pad's) rests in the hands of everyman local defense attorney Jim Summerford, who has never won a case against charismatic prosecutor and majoral candidate Mavis Frye, who also happens to be his fiance. As the trial unfolds the town's many secrets are revealed, and Jim and Mona recognize a budding attraction between them.

Directed by Laura Standley, with choreography by Jill Gorrie, The People vs Mona features Richard Binder (Jim Summerford), Mariand Torres (Ramona Maria 'Mona Mae' Katt), Karen Culp (Mavis Frye), Natalie Douglas (Judge Ella Jordan), Marcie Henderson (Tish/Blind Willie), Omri Schein (Euple/Patel), David Jon Wilson (Officer Bell) with Dan Bailey, Jason Chimonides and Ritt Henn as the McGnats.

Set design by Travis McHale, with costumes by Elisa Richards, lighting by Matthew McCarthy and sound by Mat Bussler.
