'The Other Side' announces full cast.

Manhattan Theatre Club 's American premiere of The Other Side, which opens at NY City Center's Stage 1 on the 6 Dec 2005, following previews from the 10 Nov, announces full cast.

The cast features: John Cullum (Atom Roma), Gene Farber (Guard) and Rosemary Harris (Levana Julak).

The Other Side is set near the border of two war torn countries where a man (Cullum) and a woman (Harris) await the return of their son who ran away 30 years ago. They pass their days identifying the casualties of war. When peace is established and a border guard (Farber) arrives laying a new border directly through the middle of their home, their bleakly predictable world unravels.

The play is written by Ariel Dorfman and will be directed by Blanka Zizka, with sets by Beowulf Borritt, costumes by Linda Cho, lighting by Russell H. Champa, sound by Scott Killian.

The Other Side will have a limited run to the 15 Jan 2006.

The Other Side had its world premiere at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Japan in April 2004 and will also open in London in 2006 with Sir Peter Hall directing.

John Cullum (Atom Roma). Broadway: two-time Tony winner for 'Shenandoah' and 'On the Twentieth Century,' also 'Urinetown,' 'Camelot,' 'On a Clear Day You Can See Forever,' 'Boys in Autumn,' 'Hamlet' (with Richard Burton), '1776,' 'All My Sons,' 'Show Boat,' 'Old Money,'' Candide' (City Opera), 'Sin: A Cardinal Deposed,'' Rose�s Dilemma,' 'Mr. Peters' Connection' (London).

Gene Farber (Guard) most recently appeared in the Classic Stage Company�s production of The Winter�s Tale with David Strathairn. He previously appeared in the 2nd Stage Theatre production of In The Absence of Spring, and in the role of Romeo in Shakespeare�s Romeo & Juliet at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

Rosemary Harris (Levana Julak) most recently appeared on the New York stage in Edward Albee�s 'All Over' for the Roundabout Theatre Company in 2002. Her Broadway credits include 'A Delicate Balance,' 'Waiting in the Wings,' 'An Inspector Calls,' 'Hay Fever,' 'Pack of Lies,' 'Heartbreak House,' 'The Royal Family,' 'A Streetcar Named Desire,' 'Old Times' and 'The Lion in the Winter' (Tony Award). Britian's Royal National Theatre credits: 'Women of Troy,' 'The Petition,' 'Hamlet,' 'Uncle Vanya.'

Ariel Dorfman (Playwright) is a Chilean novelist, playwright, essayist, journalist and human rights activist. Dorfman�s family moved to the United States shortly after his birth, settling in Chile in 1954. He attended and was a professor at the University of Chile. Forced into exile following the Chilean military coup of 1973, he has divided his time between Santiago and the United States since the restoration (1990) of democracy in his homeland; since 1985 he has taught at Duke University. His plays include 'Death and the Maiden' (also made into a film, directed by Roman Polanski), 'Purgartorio' (debuting at Seattle Rep in December), and Picasso�s 'Closet', debuting at Theatre J in Washington, D.C., in Spring, �06.

Blanka Zizka (Director) has been the co-Artistic Director of The Wilma Theater in Philadelphia since 1981. She has directed over 50 plays and musicals for the theater. Blanka recently directed the world premiere of 'Raw Boy's by Dael Orlandersmith, 'Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train' by Stephen Adly Guirgis, (Barrymore Winner, Best Overall Production and Best Director), the World Premiere of 'Embarrassments' by Laurence Klavan and Polly Pen, the Philadelphia premieres of Lillian Groag's 'The Magic Fire' and 'Chay Yew's Red'. In 2002, she directed the world premiere of Dael Orlandersmith's 'Yellowman' at the Manhattan Theatre Club, McCarter Theatre Center, Long Wharf Theatre, ACT in Seattle, and at The Wilma Theater.
