The Lightning Thief to play Lucille Lortel Theatre
Theatreworks USA and Twentieth Century Fox will produce the Off-Broadway premiere of a musical version of The Lightning Thief, based on the novel by Rick Riordan and the 'Percy Jackson' movie franchise. The one-act, 60 minute musical features a book by Joe Tracz and music, lyrics and orchestrations by Rob Rokicki. It will be directed by Stephen Brackett and begin performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on 21 Jul 2014, officially opening on 24 Jul 2014 and continuing its limited engagement through to 22 Aug 2014.
The cast of The Lightning Thief includes Eric Meyers (Percy Jackson), Jordan Stanley (Grover), Graham Stevens (Chiron), Kristin Stokes (Annabeth) and Zakiya Young (Sally/Clarisse).
Synopsis: 'This is the story of Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old boy who journeys into a world of mythological monsters and Greek Gods as he struggles with dyslexia and ADHD -- as well as coming to terms with a father he has never known -- while solving the mystery of Zeus' stolen lightning bolt.'
The creative team behind The Lightning Thief includes set design by Lee Savage, lighting by David Lander, choreography by Sam Pinkleton, costumes by Sydney Maresca, and sound design by Carl Casella.
The Lightning Thief will be the featured production of Theatreworks USA's 26th annual Free Summer Theatre Program in New York City. Tickets are free and are available on a first-come, first-served basis in-person at the Lucille Lortel Theatre Box Office on the day of the performance. Tickets for each day's performances will be distributed beginning one hour prior to the first performance of the day. There is a limit of four tickets per adult per day.
The Lightning Thief is recommended for children ages eight and up.
