The Fantasticks: Anthony Fedorov (Pop Idol) to play the role of Matt

The producers of the new production of The Fantasticks, the world's longest running musical, have announced that 'American Idol' Top-Four Finalist, Anthony Fedorov, will step into the role of 'Matt' on Tuesday, 1 May 2007.

The Fantasticks opened at the Snapple Theater Center on 16 Aug 2006, following previews from 29 Jul 2006 and is currently booking to 31 Aug 2007.

Anthony Fedorov was a Top-Four Finalist in season four of 'American Idol.' During the 2005 American Idol Summer Tour, Anthony played in 44 cities to over a half-million people. He recently appeared as a celebrity judge in 'MTV's Little Talent Show Triple Threat' and as a celebrity contestant on Fox's 'Fear Factor.'

Since the loss of his brother, Denis, Anthony Fedorov has become a devoted advocate for the Sarcoma Foundation of America, raising awareness of the disease and helping drive the organization's fundraising efforts to find a cure.

The musical also stars Thomas Bruce as Henry, John Deyle as Hucklebee, Sara Jean Ford as Luisa, Burke Moses as El Gallo, Robert R. Oliver as Mortimer and Martin Vidnovic as Bellomy.

The Fantasticks tells the story of a young boy and girl who fall madly in love at the hands of their meddling fathers, but soon grow restless and stray from one another. Will their separation provide a deeper appreciation for the love they once shared or create a permanent gulf between them?

This musical love story features music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones. Jones will also direct The Fantasticks, which was originally directed by Word Baker.

The musical comedy originally opened at New York's Sullivan Street Playhouse on the 3 May 1960 and played 17,162 performances before closing on the 13 Jan 2002, making it the world's longest running musical.
