The Cripple of Inishmaan: Daniel Radcliffe on Broadway
Daniel Radcliffe is to return to Broadway in Michael Grandage Company's production of Martin McDonagh's The Cripple of Inishmaan which will open at the Cort Theatre on 20 Apr 2014, following previews from 12 Apr 2014, where it will play a limited engagement through to 20 Jul 2014.
The production will mark the Broadway premiere of Academy Award-winner Martin McDonagh's play, as well the first Broadway transfer by the Michael Grandage company - a new thetrical company created by Grandage and producer James Bierman.
The Cripple of Inishmaan is transferring to Broadway following its run at London's Noel Coward Theatre where it played from 08 Jun - 31 Aug 2014, where it opened to mostly excellent reviews: A deliciously droll comedy and enormously entertaining (londontheatre.co.uk); Theatrically effective, outstandingly acted and often disgracefully funny (Daily Telegraph); While Radcliffe is the production's big draw, there's a strong sense of ensemble in Michael Grandage's polished revival (Evening Standard) and "Radcliffe also has the precious gift, vital in a play full of narrative surprises, of seeming artful and vulnerable at the same time" (Guardian).
Along with Daniel Radcliffe in the lead role of 'Billy,' the production will see all of the London cast reprise their roles for the Great White Way: Ingrid Craigie (Kate Osborne), Pádraic Delaney (Babbybobby), Sarah Greene (Helen McCormick), Gillian Hanna (Eileen Osborne), Gary Lilburn (Doctor), Conor MacNeill (Bartley McCormick), Pat Shortt (Johnnypateenmike) and June Watson (Mammy).
The creative team features set and costume design by Christopher Oram, lighting design by Paule Constable and sound designer by Alex Baranowski.
The Cripple of Inishmaan: Set on the remote island of Inishmaan off the west coast of Ireland, word arrives that a Hollywood film is being made on the neighboring island of Inishmore. The one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy (Daniel Radcliffe), if only to break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life.
Radcliffe, forever famous for his portrayal of "Harry Potter" in the eight Harry Potter films, has also starred on film in "The Woman in Black" and "Kill Your Darlings." He has appeared on Broadway in 'Equus' and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.' He currently stars alongside Jon Hamm in the TV series "A Young Doctor's Notebook."
